I'm in London btw. Moved in on Sunday just fine. I'm bored. I'm so bored, I'm writing an essay. I might publish it on Usable Standards when we get that going.
Just noticed something terrible. °jark is no longer on staff. Shocker, eh? I personally think this is awful news. Does anyone see a pattern recently?
I'm personally upset that I'll never have my "until hell freezes over" subscription. Am I left out on purpose?
I guess that's it then. I'm pretty sad for deviantART today. It's not home here anymore, and I know it hasn't been for a while, but I thought that maybe it would be again...
You know. I take a bit of this back. This last couple of days, I've felt the community again. I haven't felt so involved and part of a group of people for months, until this event. Perhaps it is having a positive effect on some of us. We're looking at the bigger picture, and I think that's great. The only thing is, it's quite sad that it's taken the removal of a key player in deviantART history to make us stop and think. Take this oppertunity to say what you think and make a difference. Okay? Birthdays were designed for reflection.
My opinion on the matter is that this site needs the community. I think developing a successful and mature community will have a large positive effect on the company. As I've said over on the seniors forums, I will not fault the site for being a company. It requires revenues to exist, so it makes money from it's products, and has therefore become a company. Good for them! It's good that it's successful, and that I got to be part of that. I just think that if the community had some time and money spent on it then the site would flourish much more. Then everyone would be happy right? We'd have the community that we want, and they'd have the revenues they need to make the site "go".
However, the heart of the community for many of us is, and always will be people, like °matteo, °dygel, °attila and most importantly, °jark. People who have put their lives into the site in one way or another. Those people who MADE this community live. °jark deserves more than this.
I'm a pessimist, btw.
People who strived to make the community better and have left recently (apart from myself and °jark) - visit them and say thanks;
